A bald man winking

I’m not a racist but
I do have a shaved head
So assumptions are made
And sometimes things are said

A certain look is given
A knowing glance or stare
A belief I’m in agreement
Because of lacking hair

My views must align with theirs
As obvious as black and white
A knowing nod, a cheeky wink
As certain as day to night.

Comments that would not be made
In the company of others
Saved for my ears only
As if we’re bigoted brothers

“You know what they’re like
They’re all the bloody same
You can’t trust them one bit
They’re the ones to blame”

I would like to think that I
Don’t make it as clear as mud
I make them fully aware
That they have mis-understood

But in reality I don’t do
I change the subject, at best
Perhaps I raise an eyebrow
Or pretend it’s said in jest

I am not a racist but
I should do more to call them out
The people making bold assumptions
And leave no room for doubt.
