A check, raise, fold and call,
The pot is loaded the stakes ain’t small,
Got a couple of eights, not that hot,
That might change, with the deal of the flop.
Well what do you know there’s an eight and a king,
Got to be cautious, be careful the sting,
Everyone’s checked, I’m safe to raise high,
Take all their money, watch them all cry,
So I raise it big, sit back and watch,
Damn someone’s check raised, what has he got?!

I thought I was safe, doesn’t look that way now,
If he’s got kings in his hand, things could turn sour,
I call his raise, hoping he’s got one in his hand,
See what’s on the turn, hope not to crash land,
Crap it’s a king, that’s not what I need,
But hang on a minute, take a look and let’s read,
That’s a full house, he might just have three,
Let’s see what he does, act confidently?
He’s stuttered a bit, I think I saw sweat,
Not sure what to do, what will he bet?

He’s moving his hand, down to his stack,
Pushing them forward, he’s gone in full whack,
Now with the stutter and sweat, I think it’s a bluff,
But I’ll need all in, to see what’s his stuff,
I hesitate slightly, it’s a lot to lose here,
I sit back in my chair and have a sip of my beer,
He’s not looking at me, he’s out of his seat,
Be in it to win it, not scared to be beat,
So I push my chips in, “Let’s see what you’ve got”,
I show him my cards, his face starts to drop!

He turns over his cards, to reveal King Ace,
Now I understand that look on his face,
But he still has a chance, with the river to come,
If an Ace was to fall, then I would be done,
The Dealer picks up the deck, and burns the top card,
I try not to fidget, I’m trying so hard,
Then there it is, the card we both wait,
I can’t believe it, not Ace but an eight!
He turns in disgust, and says it’s not fair,
Walks from the table, with a look of despair.

I try to stay calm, but I want to shout loud,
I’m so happy with this win, I really am proud,
The pot in total, is three and a half grand,
My biggest win ever, and all with one hand,
If they were all like this, I’d quit work tomorrow,
I’d pay off the mortgage, I’d never need borrow,
But in real life, this is one in a million,
And I’m destined to be, a standard civilian,
But at this moment, I’m in my prime,
I’ll savour this feeling, and take what is mine.
