Over valleys and streams, forever it seems,
The weather will change and so will our dreams,
But our hearts will remain and time and again,
You take me to where I began.
So big and so strong, you will always belong,
And when I look back I realise I was wrong,
Stand up, proud and tall, and never shall fall,
And I’ll walk alongside you for time.
At the start objection and a certain rejection,
But we should remember, the heavy oppression,
That time has now past and we continue at last,
Without the fear of culling our thoughts.
Thanks to you distant, relatives of persistence,
Standing your ground with stern utmost resistance,
A lesson we should learn, and perhaps take our turn,
To stand for what we believe in.
Although many years, separating our tears,
Our lives are so similar with recognisable fears,
As you stand there today, I would just like to say,
Thank you for bridging the gap.
