Digital dating can be pretty rough going,
Meeting for the first time and not really knowing.
Does the person you’re meeting resemble their profile,
Are they standoffish or overly tactile?
Will they be funny or as tall as they look?
Will they really be vegan and be able to cook?
How long should I wait before we have sex?
Are they being honest? Are they over their ex?
I wonder if they are thinking about getting married?
If we get a house, will we need a double garage?
Maybe they’re only after something casual and fun,
When they meet the kids perhaps they will run.
Do they own their house or are they paying rent?
What if they’re homeless and live in a tent?
Are they a drunk, a rapist or serial killer,
What if everything is superficial, all fake, all filler.
Are they thinking longterm or just seeing how it goes,
Should I change my shoes, do they go with these clothes?
Is the distance we live too far from one another?
Will the wardrobe have skeletons in, for me to discover?
So many questions, so many unknowns,
Not a lot of time to turn over stones.
One or two dates, will the surface get scratched?
Do I wear my heart on my sleeve to find if we’re matched?
