Dave was our cat
He left us last year
He had too many toes
And one wonky ear
His nose was out of joint
When our boy was born
A look from his eyes
Of distaste and scorn
But when our boy
Started to play
It looked as though Dave
Would come up to say
“I’m sorry for being
Such a bad pet.
It’s just with the baby,
I was a little upset”
“I thought you loved no more,
When he came along”
So a gave him a stroke
To prove him how wrong
I told him how silly
And daft he had been
There was no need for him
To be sullen and mean
That we loved him still
As much as we could
And if still with us
I know we still would
Sadly Dave left us
For pet heaven above
And we’re missing a friend
We really did love
His funny little toes
His wonky little ear
My eyes start to well
And I shed a little tear
That was Dave
Our funny little cat
It’s a shame our car hit him
And made him go splat.
